The European Project
The Multilanguage Summer Camps project is a European initiative co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. It brings together six organizations from Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic, with one shared mission: to support the social inclusion of migrant children through multilingual summer camps that combine sport, culture, and non-formal education.
Why This Project?
Across Europe, more and more children are growing up in multicultural environments. But for children who have just arrived in a new country, language barriers, cultural shock, and social isolation can make integration difficult—especially during summer breaks, when school support is missing.
This project aims to create accessible, inclusive, and engaging summer experiences where all children – newcomers and locals – can learn together, build friendships, and develop key life skills in a safe and multilingual space.
What Makes It Unique
A New Model of Summer Camp: The camp is not just about fun and games. It’s a structured environment that helps migrant children adapt, make friends, and start learning the local language through play and sport.
- Multilingual Facilitators: Every camp includes educators and animators who speak several languages (including Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French, English, and the host-country language).
- Sports for Inclusion: Physical activities are used as a universal language to promote cooperation, self-confidence, and mutual respect.
- Family-Centered: Activities are designed to involve families, raise awareness, and build trust with newly arrived parents.
- Financial Accessibility: Each partner is developing tools to make these camps accessible to low-income families.
Objectives
- Promote multilingual and inclusive summer camps across Europe, especially targeting children from migrant backgrounds.
- Train sports educators and facilitators to work effectively with diverse groups using inclusive, intercultural, and language-sensitive methods.
- Develop educational tools and outreach strategies to support families and schools in welcoming newly arrived children.
- Create a scalable and sustainable model for replication in other cities and countries.
